Introducing Splat Messy Play Blog - Guest Post

Guest post:

Welcome to the brand new blog bringing you news and updates as well as endless child friendly fun ideas from Splat Messy play
I'm Natasha and I blog at justthewaywewantto.co.uk.
I am honoured to be introducing this blog on behalf of Amanda, who runs the Splat sessions in the Clevedon & Nailsea areas of North Somerset.

I discovered Splat on Facebook and knew right away we would enjoy it, messy play is so important for little ones, learning to explore textures, improve motor skills and develop coordination. Besides messy play is fun! If you can't get messy when you are little, when can you?

We signed up for 7 weeks and literally counted down the days until we could finally go and get messy! You can read about our first Splat session here.

The sessions are very relaxed, the usual set up is 7 stations with different sensory activities and materials, fun, child friendly music in the background and a bubble machine (which is always a winner with the little ones!), squash and baked treats are also available at no extra cost. The children are able to explore the 7 stations, in their own time, no pressure to be structured or even move onto something if they don't fancy it.

Some examples of stations we have had so far are:
  • Painting
  • Dried pasta
  • Cooked noodles
  • Playdough
  • Water
  • Sticking
  • Oats
  • Rainbow rice
  • Whipped cream
and plenty more! There is an area for the children to wash their hands should they fancy it. At the end of the sessions the children are given time to get changed before receiving a sticker for their participation and a song to close the session.

The atmosphere is wonderful, everyone is relaxed and welcoming - it's just that sort of group. The little ones can get on and do their own thing but never seem to cause havoc. It's a lovely way to meet local people and let your little ones be themselves. My husband and I have both come home from sessions with paint and sand and all sorts on our clothes but so does every other parent there.

Splat Messy Play is the best idea for a toddler group I've ever come across and the children love it too, they are always very excited when Friday comes. I'd highly recommend Splat sessions to any parent of young children. If you love your kids to be kids and have fun and don't mind a bit of mess (and lets be honest, if you don't have to clear it up what's not to like?) Splat is for you!

Follow Amanda for updates and brilliant messy play and tuff spot ideas and show her a warm welcome to the world of blogging
